Chapter 6: Chapter 6 starts out with a magazine article about the death of Chris McCandless. Then it goes back to talking about Chris' life before his death when he was out in the wilderness. Chris left the Burres family and set up a camp in a desert. If he ever needed water he would buy a plastic bottle for the liquor store and fill it up. McCandless then left for San Diego. When Chris becomes friends with Franz they have a father-son like realtionship. Ronald asks if he could adopt Chris as his grandson. Franz adopted 14 previous children to over come his drinking addiction. Chris declined the offer. When Franz found out about Chris' death he went back to drinking right away.
Chapter 7: Wayne and many other people from Carthage talk about the final visit of Chris. Wayne also recalls the stay that Chris had with him when he did odd and unusual jobs to get ready for his Alaskan Adventure. This chapter also reveals that Chris hsared the same negative attitude of that of his father. Chris also remains celibate ofr as far as we know. Also we don't really know if Chris liked men or women, but we do know that he did have a crush on a girl. This chapter relates Theoreau's quotes to his transcendental choices.
Chapter 8: McCandless’ death caused a lot of articles and mail to stir up. Most of this was negative towards him. One major criticism towards McCandless came from a school teacher from Washington DC by the name of Nick Jans. His article said that McCandless wasn’t unique because there were so many other people that went out into the wild and did what he did. Since Chris died a guy by the name of Gene Rosellini decided to do the same thing but he came better prepared. Rosellini died and his article made the front of the paper but his article didn’t have nearly as many people stir up as Chris’ did. Another guy by the name of John Waterman decided to climb a lot of mountains in Alaska. He ran for a local school board and president of the United States but lost both of them because of bizarre tasks to succeed in. He died, but his death was unknown. Some relations have arisen between his and Chris’ death supposedly but unlikely. Chapter 9: Everett Ruess decided to do the same thing as Chris, just like the other people in the previous chapter. Everett was different. He returned to his home after the summer to get a high school diploma. Chris never returned home. Everett did write letters that revealed parallels between himself and Chris. Everett never was found again. People believe that Everett became an Indian because they found writings on the walls.
